Happy Motivation Monday, everyone! Today, I want to share a personal story that might resonate with many of you. It’s about the ups and downs of my journey towards a healthier lifestyle and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
The Highs and Lows of My No-Alcohol Journey 🍷
This time last year, I embarked on a no-alcohol journey. I was determined, motivated, and managed to stay alcohol-free for seven months. I felt fantastic, lost a stone, and my energy levels were through the roof. I was on top of the world and proud of my progress.
But then, one little party and a few glasses of vino later, my weekly routine included alcohol again. What was supposed to be a one-time indulgence turned into a regular habit. The hard work I had put in seemed to vanish overnight. I was disappointed in myself and felt like I had let myself down.
The Importance of Self-Care 💚
As a yoga instructor, I always preach the importance of self-care to my students. Yet, I found myself neglecting my own advice. Yesterday, I took Eloise’s class at The Nook—a one-hour session of luscious yin yoga. It was exactly what I needed. The hour flew by, and I realised how much I had missed taking time for myself. It was a wake-up call that I needed to practice what I preach.
Adjusting My Routine 🌈
Inspired by tye Yin class, I started thinking about my own classes at The Nook. Maybe it’s time to extend some of those 45-minute sessions to a full hour? After all, if I felt this rejuvenated after an hour, imagine what my students could gain with an extra 15 minutes - time to look at my schedule!"
This morning, I laced up my trainers and went for a 5K run. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. Every heartbeat, every step, was a reminder that I’m on the path to regaining my fitness. It’s easy to take care of others and forget about ourselves, but self-care is crucial.
The Battle with Healthy Eating 🥑
My attempts at healthy eating have been, well, let’s say, less than stellar. The convenience of grabbing a Greggs on the way to the studio often wins out. And while teaching four classes a day might seem like enough exercise to justify it, pairing it with four glasses of wine and a cheese sandwich isn’t exactly the epitome of health.
A Lighthearted Take 😊
Let’s face it, we all have our moments of weakness. I mean, who can resist a Greggs sausage roll? But it’s important to remember that every day is a new opportunity to make better choices. As the saying goes, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”.
Moving Forward 🏃
So, here’s to Motivation Monday and to all of us who are striving to be better. Whether it’s cutting down on alcohol, eating healthier, or simply taking time for self-care, every small step counts. Let’s laugh at our slip-ups, learn from them, and keep moving forward.
Remember, it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress. And if you ever need a little boost, just think of that one-hour yin yoga class and how quickly the time flew by. Maybe it’s time to make some adjustments in your routine too. After all, if we can take care of others, we can certainly take care of ourselves.
A Fitting Quote to Inspire
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
Happy Motivation Monday, everyone! Let’s make this week amazing.
